KAMCHATKA BEAR HUNTING

russia-b
Hunting in Russia has become very popular in the last decade.  Kamchatka Brown Bear hunting is definitely an adventure. Our outfitter has been directing hunts in Kamchatka for the past 12 years.  Our hunters normally enjoy 100% success annually; with a very large percentage of our hunters harvesting 9 foot or larger bears every year.  In Spring 2007 we had 4 hunters take 10 foot or better bears.

How to get there
Due to current airline schedules our hunters must fly to Moscow and catch a connecting flight to Petropavlovsk.  Upon arrival in Moscow you will be met by one of our company's representatives who will assist you in clearing customs.  At this point when possible, we normally offer two options and allow our guest to choose (A) Be taken to a hotel where you will overnight and fly to Petropavlovsk the next day or (B) After clearing customs you will catch your connecting flight to Petropavlovsk.  The flight from Moscow to Petropavlovsk is approximately 9 hours.

Accommodations
The camps are polar tents or cabins.  They are warm, clean, but have no modern convenience (running water, flush toilets etc.). The tents/cabins are equipped with stove and cots.  The electricity is supplied by generating sets.  There are separate tents for sleeping, dining and for showers.  Every camp has an interpreter and cook.

Hunting
Bears are hunted as they are emerging from dens.  The hunter and the guide will travel a great distance by snowmobile looking for tracks of a large bear. Your guide drives a snowmobile and you sit in the sledge behind.  It is very important to wear a very warm hunting outfit.  Once the tracks are cut, the hunter will follow the bear.  When a bear is spotted you will stalk the bear on foot, snow shoes or skis.  After May 10th the hunting area will have less snow and we use camps at the Okhotsk seacoast and hunting is more on foot and with use of a boat for spotting.  Shooting distance on average is 100-150 m.  Hunts are conducted on boats, foot, spotting and stalking, observing active Salmon streams, berry patches and feeding areas. Horse back hunts are available in some of the areas.
