Lake Baccarac Trophy Largemouth Bass Fishing

LBMexico-a

Many of the leading authorities in the Bass fishing world predict that the next world record Largemouth Bass will be caught at Lake Baccarac.

The lake was stocked with Florida strain Bass in 1978. When the government allowed the lake to be opened to sport fishing, success was beyond most angler's dreams.

Since the year 2000, there has being very little fishing taking place on the lake. Water levels have been at all-time highs and the Bass population has exploded. Over 90% of our guided fishermen catch at least one Bass between 8 and 12 pounds daily! The season is open October through July annually.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007 I have made five trips to Lake Baccarac and fished a total of 17 days. During those 17 days of fishing, I have caught, weighed, and released 24 Largemouth Bass weighing 10 pounds or better, with my two largest fish weighing in at 16 pounds 13 ounces and 15 pounds 9 ounces. During 2005, two of our guests caught Bass weighing 18 pounds 3 ounces and 18 pounds 8 ounces!

Even on the worst day Lake Baccarac Bass fishing is awesome and some days are totally unbelievable. I could use a whole paragraph just listing the names of men, women and children who caught their first bass over 10 pounds during 2005, 2006 and 2007. I cannot even begin to estimate how many bass weighing between 6 and 9 pounds I've caught during these trips.

However, I remember two "Lo Bina" ("Bass" in Spanish) I still day dream about from time to time that broke my 20-pound test line! The last one was in April 2006...I had fought the fish for several minutes while down on my knees with my 7-foot rod stuck down in the water in order to keep the fish's head below the surface. My excitement and adrenaline rush had calmed, it looked like I "had her whipped" and at the next instant my knot broke! I stood there dumbfounded and helpless looking at the fish as it slowly realized, "Hey, I'm free" then turned away and swam down into the shadows of Lake Baccarac's deep clear water.

Was it a world record? I honestly don't know, and unfortunately I will never know. My guide who speaks fluent English sat there for several minutes in total silence. Finally, I asked him what was wrong, he stood up and said "Amigo Wes, 10 years ago I caught a 19 pound 11 ounce Bass here and since that day that was the largest Bass I had seen!" His next words were... "Never, and I mean never, has my knot broke!" Right before I hooked this fish I had caught a 12 pound 10 ounce bass and he had just checked and retied my line! I assure you this man can tie a knot better with his eyes closed than I can with mine wide open! The positive aspect to this story is that fish is still alive and waiting on your lure! As a matter of a fact, all 21 of the fish mentioned earlier were weighed and released as we practice a strict catch-and-release program!

For 30-plus years I have loved to Bass fish. I have fished from Zimbabwe, Africa to Ontario, Canada, and never have I fished a place like Lake Baccarac. It is special not only for the number of fish, but quality of fish. Wouldn't you enjoy fishing a lake were the shallow water, top water, and structure fishing techniques you've watched, read, and dreamed about work? Give us a call today! We've got a comfortable seat on a 20-foot boat, a good guide, and some unforgettable bass action waiting on you!
