Botswana is a multi party politically stable democratic country. The population numbers approximately 1.5 million people. The official language is English with the national language being Setswana. Botswana is approximately 581,730 kilometers in size. Temperatures vary a great deal with the seasons. March and April are warm, while May, June and July are usually cold, with night time temperatures averaging approximately 40° F and day temperatures averaging 75°F. August and September are considered spring months with temperatures warming up a bit and windy conditions. The rainy or green season is from November until March with temperatures climbing over 100°F daily. The hunting season begins in early April and ends in mid September annually.
Botswana’s Okavango Delta is without a doubt an amazing beautiful place offering unbelievable big game hunting, wingshooting, fishing, bird watching, sightseeing, game viewing and photographic opportunities; covering more than 15,000 square kilometers this huge inland delta is fed by the mighty Okavango River. The only major river in the world that never reaches the sea, after traveling approximately 1,000 kilometers from Angola the Okavango River enters Botswana forming Botswana’s world famous Okavango Delta and flows until it disappears into the parched Kalahari Sands.
Having visited, hunted and fished in Botswana on multiple occasions throughout the years. Wes is very pleased to work with Johan Calitz Safaris in this country. Johan has several first class camps in areas across Botswana; in the Okavango Delta, Chobe, Kalahari and Limpopo Regions encompassing over 1.2 million hectares.
World renowned for its trophy Elephant hunting. In addition, Botswana has excellent Buffalo, Crocodile, Leopard, Eland, Gemsbuck, Kudu, Lechwe and many other Plainsgame species. For the wingshooting enthusiast, a visit to Botswana is a must. A relaxing morning or afternoon of fly or spin tackle fishing on the Delta is a rewarding experience. Binoculars and camera should always remain close!!
