Zambia Hunter's Anecdotes E-mail

Wes,

dscf0178.jpgI just got back from Zambia last Friday and the hunt was as advertised.  Sarge and the staff were great while we were in the Valley and I could not have been more pleased with the quality of game taken.  The pictures are testimonial to the hunting experience and quality of trophies taken.  The camp and hunting staff were eager to please and worked as a team in making sure all our needs were met and that we were very comfortable in remote Africa.  The food was outstanding and I really enjoyed the buffalo tripe.   I also enjoyed meeting Leslie Long as he was good company in camp.  My buddy, Bill O’Dell could not have been more pleased with his hunt with Leslie.

The local kids and villagers were just wonderful and I really enjoyed meeting them and learning more about the great community work that Kwalata Safaris is doing in the Lower Lupande GMA.

dscf0200.jpgThe logistics in Lusaka were also outstanding.  Christy did a very good job getting everything arranged.  We had no trouble clearing customs nor did we have any issues with our guns and ammo.  The flights to Mfuwe and return were on time and very pleasant.  The Taj Pamodzi was world class and we really enjoyed the shopping and dining (Marlin Restaurant at the Lusaka Club) in Lusaka.  I also want to thank Angie Price for coordinating all the travel itineraries with the staff in Zambia as the entire trip from departure to return went very smoothly.

Wes Hixon’s Outdoor Adventures and Kwalata Safaris delivered on their promises.  Job well done.

Regards,

Pete

Dear Wes,
I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know what a great timeimg_0075.jpg I had hunting with Kwalata Safaris. This was my first hunting adventure in Africa and I don’t think I could have scripted a better hunt. Not only was I able to take a great buffalo, I was fortunate enough to be able and take six other plains game including Kudu, Waterbuck and Puku. Kwalata Safaris did a great job and their staff could not have been better! In addition, the lower Lupande area was truly impressive with its variety and quality of game. I think it is important to recognize people when they do and exceptional job and Kwalata Safaris did just that. Also thank you and your staff for all the help you have provided, it made for a great trip. Enclosed is a CD with copies of some of our hunting photos. Feel free to use them to show prospective clients. Thanks again.

Best Regards,

William L. O’Dell

Hi Wes,

I just got back to Canada from a hunt of a lifetime in Zambia with Kwalata.  Myself and my different_picutes_037.jpgtwo sons, JoeJr, and Jamie had a great hunt and a wonderful time.  The whole experience of hunting with my sons will always have a special spot in my memory.  I thank you for taking a wishful thought and turning it into a unforgettable event.

We got the animals that we had gone to hunt; the PHs and support staff were there for us and tended to all of our wants and needs. The staff at Kwalata made it a very positive experience.

Christine and Selma got us in and out of the Lusaka airport so quickly that if my shoes were not tied on they would have slipped off.

Sarge meet us at Mfuwe and made us feel welcome and at home. We drove to the hunting camp and I had so many questions for Sarge and he answered all of them.

I meet Leslie, my PH at camp and what a grme_and_my_buffalo.jpgeat PH and he made sure I had a positive experience..I had booked a buffalo hunt and Leslie got me a great buffalo; he guided and took the guess work out of everything.  All I have to do was place the bullet in the right spot and he made that easy too.

One of a hunting camps rating criteria is always the food. The FOOD was first class; we got to eat what we hunted and much more.  The camp cook and staff made sure we left the dining room completly satisfied.

I had a wonderful time and a great hunt with Leslie; he got me all of the animals that I had wanted to hunt.  I enjoyed myself so much that the end of the hunt came too quickly, sooner than I wanted it to.

africa_2008_089.jpgMy words cannot describe enough what great and knowledgeable PH Leslie and Sarge are.  They gave me more than just a hunt of a lifetime but a wonderful experience of a lifetime.

I highly recommend anyone reading this to book a hunt with Wes Hixon/Kwalata in Zambia.

Wes,

andyn-hippo.jpgI had been working on this hunt for over two years and it was truly exceptional.

Sarge is a great PH and he was able put me within shooting distances of all the animals that I wanted.  I was able to arrow my Hippo and Buffalo twice before they expired.  Sarge's saying is "no problem" and if he says "no problem" you will get your animals.

I was able to take six animals on my seven day hunt and if a man was only rifle hunting he would have the opportunity  to take at  least a Buffalo a day. One of the highlights for me was being charged by a big cow elephant, then you feel alive.

Thanks Andy

Wes,

To say that I had a fantastic time would be an understatement.  The buffalo were in thick cover and we hunted hard for 4 days to get his old bull.  The vegetation was thick and game jaysarge-capebuffalo.jpgcould hide easily.  I could fill half a book telling you about Sarge and all he did including getting attacked by African bees.  He is an amazing individual and the best PH I could have ever hoped for.  Robert felt much the same way about Simon.  I was interested in all of the safari including every nuance of every plant, tree, person, etc., and not just taking game.  Sarge must have patiently and thouroughly answered at least a hundred questions.

My buff was unique in the manner of the stalk and the taking. The first Barnes triple shock soft broke his shoulder and cut major aretries just over his heart.  The second shot was a solid through the right ham and out the left shoulder as he ran away.  He went about 50 yards and lay down. He jumped up on us as we approached and a Barnes triple shock in the neck shattered the spine and ended his obvious intention to walk over and untie my sneakers.

My croc was, again, quite an event after he plunged into the water following the shot and thenjay-southam---impala.jpg came thrashing out of the water trying not to drown.  A second shot settled the matter.  My Impala is a symetrical 24 inches and is, I am told, quite a good Impala.

I just wanted you to know that Robert and I had a very amazing safari experience and we are very well pleased with the experience on many different levels.  We quickly learned that the African experience was about far more that shooting at game.  It was not only a blast, but an overall experience that we will cherish forever.

There are so many things I could relate that it would take a phone call and not an email.  The bottom line is that it was great!
