Season: July - December Tanzania-a

Harpreet Brar, the owner of Rungwa Safaris, and Wes have known each other for several years. Both of them share the same goals in booking and hosting clients, thus offering each of you the opportunity to experience Tanzania, on a traditional African Dangerous Game or Plainsgame Safari.

These safaris are conducted in remote, prime concessions that provide access into areas that are still being discovered and opened for our hunters annually. These areas remind us Africa is still the "Dark Continent" and that the Lion truly is the "King".

If your goal is to hunt "Trophy Buffalo", "Mature, Heavy-Maned Lion", "Big Tom Leopards", "Long-Tusked Elephants", and a variety of beautiful plainsgame, then we invite you to come experience some of the best hunting Tanzania has to offer. Indulge yourself with outstanding meals, service and scenery from absolute first-class, tented safari camps.

Tanzania ranges from savannah grasslands in the north to the Miombo woodlands of the southern and western regions. The average temperature is about 80° F in the day, and can drop to 45° F in the evenings. One of Tanzania's greatest assets is its diversity in wildlife which ranges to well over 50 species. There are three main hunting areas: Masailand, Western Tanzania, and the Selous Game Reserve.

Western Tanzania (Rungwa)

These areas of primarily Miombo woodlands give the hunters access to some of the best big game hunting in Africa. This huge unspoiled area produces excellent Lion, Leopard, Sable, East African Roan, Topi, Hippo, and Crocodile. Buffalo with spreads of 40"- 45" are not uncommon. East African Sitatunga and Puku can also be hunted through special arrangements. Hunting here is done from July to November.

Tanzania-fTanzania-eMasailand

The area includes the Masai Steppes and continues into the central province. It is primarily savannah and thorn thicket with a few rocky outcrops. Known for its Leopard, Fringe-Eared Oryx, Greater and Lesser Kudu, Coke's Hartebeest, Grants and Thompson's Gazelle, Gerenuk, and East African Impala, Masailand is hunted the full season from July 1st to December 31st. Hunters who visit Tanzania will agree, you never forget your first trip to Masailand.  The Masai people, Mt. Kilmanjaro, and the Ngorongoro crater will leave you feeling that you have experienced National Geographic's Africa.

Selous Game ReserveTanzania-g

The Selous Game Reserve is the world's largest game reserve at approximately 55,000 square kilometers of unspoiled wilderness. This area consists of riverine forests and Miombo woodlands, and produces excellent East African Eland, Elephant, Buffalo, Nyasa Wildebeest, Leopard, Crocodile, Hippo, Lichtensteins Hartebeest, Zebra, Warthog, and other Plainsgame. Elephant safaris are conducted here, and success rates are reasonably high. The Selous is hunted from July to November.

Additional Information And Requirements:

Tanzania-hCamps

Camps in Tanzania are luxury tented camps built in the traditional East African style. These large tents are insect proof and have en suite bathrooms with verandas where you can have a welcoming "sundowner" after a long day of hunting. Camps are fully equipped with fridges, freezers, lighting, and an experienced staff to make your safari as comfortable as possible. Daily communication is maintained with the Arusha office, and in case of the slightest emergency, a flying doctor service is made available to provide first-rate medical attention. Upon request, a satellite phone is also available.

Fine dining is included in your safari, and the cooks cater to all tastes, using fresh and canned foods to provide gourmet meals to the highest of standards. Laundry is also done daily, and clothes put out in the evening are usually ready the next day.

Each professional hunter has a modern 4X4 vehicle, complete with trackers and personal gun bearers. As all of our PHs are raised in East Africa, they have and intimate knowledge of the game and people, ensuring the success of your safari.

Tanzania-iTravel

Tanzania requires that you have a valid yellow fever inoculation certificate to be shown upon arrival. We also recommend that you check with your local physician or health department for the appropriate Malaria prophylactics and other required vaccinations. Should you need any assistance with your travel arrangements, please contact our office. Upon booking your safari our office will furnish all the necessary paperwork, sample copies, and travel tips for the following: all gun permits, suggested clothing list, U.S. Customs forms, how to obtain your visa, and cancellation insurance forms.

Firearms

You are allowed a maximum of three firearms. Handguns and automatic weapons are not allowed. If you plan to hunt dangerous game, the caliber limitation is no less than a .375, and for Plainsgame the limitation is a .240. We recommend that you bring 20 rounds of solids and 60 rounds of soft points for your heavy rifle. Our recommendation is that clients bring a scoped .375 or .416 as a heavy rifle, and a 7mm or .300 for hunting Plainsgame. It is important to bring a rifle that you are comfortable shooting. Company rifles may also be rented at $150 per week, ammunition will be charged at cost in Tanzania.
